On Monday, the motorcyclist who sustained serious injuries on the Riverside (91) Freeway in Corona was identified as a 37-year-old Riverside man.
On Sunday afternoon, Brian Clayton lost control of his 2006 Suzuki and collided with a vehicle jammed in traffic on the westbound 91.
The victim was “lane splitting,” riding between the carpool and fast lanes, to get around a jam, told CHP.
According to CHP Officer Travis Monks, the average vehicle was travelling around 5 mph while Clayton’s motorcycle was traveling near 40 mph. He said that as the Suzuki neared Interstate 15, Clayton leaned the motorcycle on the left side and it hit the rear of a 2013 Audi A4 in the carpool lane. The accident happened at about 4 p.m.
The motorcyclist died soon after arriving at Riverside Community Hospital because his injuries were life-threatening.
The person behind the wheel of the Audi was not injured.
