MARTINEZ, CA – A pregnant woman was killed in Martinez, Calif., as a gravel truck overturned onto a driveway Tuesday.
According to police reports, the accident happened when the truck at a city construction project raised to dump its load. However, instead of dumping the load, the bed of the truck toppled over on the driveway on top of a car. A woman sitting inside the vehicle was crushed as the load fell on her vehicle.
The woman was trying to back out of her driveway so the gravel truck could move in and unload. A worker was helping her back out, but the 20 tons of material on the truck shifted, causing the truck to overturn.
Travis Hagerthy, a neighbor, reported, “I saw the truck laying on the car and they were working on the sidewalk, trying to get her out of the car and told them to get the back hoe. Ripped the door off and that’s when the cops pulled up, took her pulse and determined she was dead.”
The victim was identified as 32-year-old Lindsey Combs who was two months pregnant. Her four-year-old daughter was present in the driveway at the time and witnessed the whole accident.
“I am devastated, upset, mostly upset that this was totally avoidable. Just a roller coaster of emotions,” said Anderson Pamilton, Combs’ fiance.
