LOS ANGELES – According to officials, 22 troops sustained injuries due to an accident that happened during a training exercise at a US Marine base in California on Thursday after a fire extinguisher malfunctioned.
The NBC News report showed that the majority of the injuries were inhalation related.
The Marine Corps issued a statement saying that Marines and sailors were training at the Twentynine Palms Marine base “when a fire extinguisher system located within their assault amphibious vehicle inadvertently discharged”.
It was also in the statement that those who were in need of medical treatment were receiving care at local medical facilities and were in stable condition. The Twentynine Palms base is located almost 150 miles east of Los Angeles and features a mock town that has been made to resemble an Iraqi city to make troops ready for missions.
